Staff Picks: March Favorites

What We Are Actually Wearing

One thing we love about working at Commonware is that we get to live in the clothes we make. Not just at photoshoots or in marketing materials, but in our actual, everyday lives. And because our team has diverse styles, body types, and lifestyles, our individual favorites are never the same.

Each month, we ask five team members to share the one piece they have been reaching for most. Here are the picks for March.

Emma Chen, Creative Director

The Pick: Linen Button-Down in Sea Glass

“I have been wearing this shirt almost every day since the samples came in. Sea Glass is the color I am proudest of this season - it is this impossible blue-green that changes depending on the light. In the morning it looks almost grey. By afternoon it is unmistakably coastal.

I wear it open over our Organic Cotton Crew Tee in Chalk White with the sleeves rolled to the elbow. Bottoms are usually our Everyday Chino in Sand or, honestly, just a pair of old jeans. I keep the rest of the outfit neutral and let the shirt color do the talking.

The linen is already starting to soften, which is my favorite part. Give it another month and it will feel like I have owned it for years.”

Marcus Rivera, Head of Sustainability

The Pick: Heavyweight Crew Sweatshirt in Charcoal

“I am a simple person when it comes to getting dressed, and this sweatshirt is the most useful garment in my closet right now. March mornings are still cold, afternoons are mild, and this hits the sweet spot perfectly.

The weight is substantial without being stifling. I wear it over a plain tee most days, and I have started throwing our Layer Jacket over it for early morning bike commutes. By noon the jacket comes off and the sweatshirt is all I need.

I will say this: the Charcoal colorway is the one that surprised me. I expected to prefer the Oatmeal, but there is something about this particular shade of dark grey that goes with literally everything. It is my uniform right now.”

Sarah Kim, Stylist

The Pick: Ribbed Tank in Chalk White

“I know March seems early for a tank, but hear me out. I have been wearing the Ribbed Tank as a layering piece under everything - cardigans, blazers, open button-downs. The ribbed texture adds just enough visual interest to make a simple outfit feel finished.

My go-to combination this month has been the Ribbed Tank under our Linen Button-Down in Sandstone, knotted at the waist, with high-waisted wide-leg trousers. It is the kind of outfit that takes two minutes to put together but looks like you thought about it.

The fit is the real star here. It is slim without being tight, and the length is perfect for tucking. I have already bought a second one because I know I will be living in these all summer.”

Jordan Wells, Design Lead

The Pick: Organic Cotton Overshirt in Driftwood

“As a designer, I am probably too critical of our own products, but the Overshirt is the piece I keep coming back to with genuine enthusiasm. The fabric has this beautiful hand feel - it is a heavier cotton canvas with a garment wash that gives it the look of something you found in a vintage shop in Portugal.

I have been wearing it buttoned up as a standalone top on mild days, and open as a light jacket when it is cooler. The patch pockets are genuinely useful, not just decorative, which matters when you are someone who is always carrying a pen and a notebook.

Driftwood is the color I reach for because it sits in this interesting space between grey and brown. It is warm without being earthy, cool without being sterile. It pairs with everything in our lineup and a lot of what I already own from other brands.”

The Pick: Everyday Chino in Navy

“I am going to be honest: I did not think much about chinos before I started working here. They were just pants. But the Everyday Chino converted me, and the Navy colorway is the reason.

It has the same comfort as the Sand version that everyone loves, but Navy gives it a slightly more polished feel. I wear these to the office with our Crew Tee and a blazer, and I wear them on weekends with sneakers and a sweatshirt. They have become the bottoms I build every outfit around.

The fit is genuinely perfect - the taper is subtle enough to not look trendy, and the mid-rise sits comfortably whether I am sitting at my desk all day or walking around the city. I have washed mine at least fifteen times and they still look and feel brand new.

If you only buy one Commonware piece this spring, make it these.”

The Common Thread

What strikes me about these picks is how different they are and yet how naturally they all work together. You could build an entire wardrobe from this list alone - a tee, a tank, a shirt, an overshirt, a sweatshirt, and a pair of chinos. That interchangeability is not an accident. It is the whole point of what we do.
